Albertsons pins high hopes on web-based product data synchronization

By building a web-based central repository of its product data synchronized with its suppliers` data, Albertsons Inc. expects to improve its ability to manage product information, resulting in faster product launches and more flexibility in pricing and promotions. "Our new product data system is expected to deliver significant improvements in the relationships we create with our customers and suppliers alike," says Bob Dunst, executive vice president and CTO.

Albertsons, a major grocer with more than $36 billion in annual revenue, operates 2,300 retail stores in 31 states under brands such as Albertsons, Jewel-Osco, Acme and Sav-On Drugs. It said this week that it will synchronize its product information with UCCnet data standards with the Trigo Product Center from Trigo Technologies Inc. and has asked suppliers to do the same. This will enable Albertsons and its suppliers to exchange synchronized product information through UCCnet`s Internet-based GlobalRegistry of company data as well as through Albertsons` own Internet portal for its trading partners.

"The introduction of centralized item synchronization and product information management initiatives demonstrates Albertsons` strategic commitment to deploy leading edge technology to improve corporate performance," Dunst says.

"Developing a central repository of comprehensive, accurate product information that is seamlessly synchronized with our suppliers` data is key to our goal of becoming the preferred retailer for our vendors," he adds. "Our new system will allow us to provide the best customer experience across all touch points, and will enhance the company`s overall performance."
