Proflowers’ Mother`s Day sales set a record
Online floral retailer Proflowers Inc. earned $8.8 million on Mother`s Day revenue of $20.5 million, the company reported today. Proflowers defines the Mother`s Day period as May 3-10. Revenue was up 32% from last year’s Mother`s Day revenue of $15.5 million.
Proflowers processed 396,452 orders over the week leading up to Mother`s Day and shipped 1.7 million rose stems and 1.4 million tulips.
Repeat customers placed 44% of the period`s orders. The company added more than 175,000 new customers during the Mother`s Day period, up 24% from last year.
The company says its successful Mother`s Day follows a strong third quarter, in which revenues rose $28.8 million, a 15% increase over the same period in 2002. Proflowers also reported net income for the quarter increased 120% to $2.4 million from $1.1 million in the third quarter of 2002.
"Mother`s Day is the flower industry standard for judging a company`s success, and we`ve just had our best season yet," said Bill Strauss, Proflowers` CEO. "Combined with our strong third quarter results and high percentage of repeat customers, we feel this is proof our business model is working for the customer and the bottom line."
