Vendio addresses its network management problems

A network management problem resulted in a loss of service for some users of Vendio Services Inc.’s third-party eBay auction program on Thursday.

Vendio co-founder and CEO Rodrigo Sales says some customers on the East Coast, in Canada and overseas were unable to see the images posted with their auctions on eBay from about 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pacific time as a result of network management problems at the company’s third-party data center. Late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, employees at the data center renamed the Internet protocol addresses for some Internet service providers, but some of those providers didn`t immediately use the new addresses.

As a result, some users of Vendio’s third-party auction service were unable to access their eBay listings or see the images posted on their eBay auctions. The problem was corrected by 1 p.m. Pacific time, Sales says. “The entire system was not down, but some users in remote locations could not see their images,” he says. The problem impacted about “a single percentage of our customer base,” he adds.

Vendio, which provides listing management and research services for sellers on eBay as a result of its acquisition of Andale Inc. in June 2006, is working to troubleshoot any future IP address problems. “More of the remote sites were affected,” Sales says. “Customers felt better when we explained to them the system could be accessed, but that they might have trouble seeing their images from some locations.”
