Aerosoles to offer Newgistics SmartLabel returns to online shoppers

Newgistics, Inc.’s SmartLabel returns program for retailers expands again with the addition of footwear company Aerosoles, which will implement the service for its online and catalog customers this month. Retailers typically see as much as 70% usage of the SmartLabel returns service within 150 days of launch, the company says.

The service offers a prepaid, pre-addressed return-shipping label along with the packing slips shoppers receive with their merchandise. The bar-coded label links the package to the customer’s invoice, providing early package visibility to Aerosoles and expediting disposition of the return and exchange or credit for the shopper.

“Adding convenient methods for returning products makes sense, especially when we can also gain operational efficiencies,” says Robert Garris, vice president of direct marketing for Aerosoles.

Product returns can represent as much as 25% of online and catalog sales depending on the product category, according to industry estimates. Industry research shows that a significant number of consumers don’t purchase via direct channels rather than in a store because of perceptions of a difficult returns process. However, 75% of consumers in a Benchmark study last year said they would buy more from a retailer if the returns process was convenient.

Newgistics also announced that Richard Marcus, former CEO of Neiman Marcus, is the first appointee to its newly-created SmartLabel Advisory Board.
