Circuit City takes new tack in blocking spam

At Circuit City Stores Inc., a new e-mail spam-blocking system is making employees more productive by letting them easily separate junk mail from critical messages, CIO Dennis Bowman tells InternetRetailer.com.

Circuit City, which operates more than 600 stores inn 159 markets in addition to CircuitCity.com, recently deployed the Postini Perimeter Manager spam-blocking system from Postini Inc. to overcome a spam problem that was consuming network resources and reducing employee productivity, Bowman says.

"We are seeing a variety of operational benefits but probably the most notable benefit is in employee productivity," he says. "Our associates are able to cleanly segregate spam from legitimate e-mail and then deal with the spam as a group rather than individually. For those of us who get over 100 spam e-mails a day, that is a big pickup in productivity."

Bowman adds that the system, which processes Circuit City`s e-mail through Postini`s network servers, was easy to deploy and has resulted in accurate transmissions of e-mail according to Circuit City`s pre-set parameters of what constitutes spam.
