Fast launches tool for managing site search, navigation and merchandising
Based on development work it conducted with IBM, Dell, Nordstrom and others, Fast Search & Transit has launched an application, Fast Impulse, that gives online retailers more control of modifying navigation and merchandising along with their site search function. Site changes can be made in real-time, says David Isaacson, senior product marketing manager.
"Today, to make a promotional change, a merchandise manager often has to call his or her IT department," Isaacson says. "Now the merchandise manager can go directly into the system to promote a particular brand of jeans in search results."
Fast Impulse is designed as a user-friendly tool for merchandise managers to produce real-time changes in the way merchandise appears through site search and navigation. The application also includes web analytics, allowing managers to set merchandising rules based on the past shopping behavior of registered customers. A shopper who searches for shirts and has a history of purchasing shirts and sweaters, for example, might be presented cross-selling displays of sweaters, Isaacson says. Taking that a step further, the search might also produce a list of best sellers in sweaters, he adds.
The Impulse application can also come with additional features that produce reports of competitors’ online pricing and that show how a retailer’s brands are being mentioned on the web, such as in news reports or blogs, Isaacson says. Fast offers Impulse as either a licensed or hosted application.
