Dell provides fastest dial-up and broadband access in July

Dell in July provided the fastest response time for customers accessing the site using a dial-up connection, says Gomez Inc.

Dial-up web shoppers could access Dell.com in 31.85 seconds. Dell was followed by OfficeMax (36.79 seconds), Footlocker (43.18 seconds), Netflix (43.82 seconds), HP Shopping (44.07 seconds), Cabela’s (3.85 seconds), FTD (44.26 seconds), Office Depot (44.50 seconds), FTD (44.96 seconds), Quixtar (45.98 seconds) and Scholastic (47.66 seconds).

Using a high broadband connection, Dell also provided the fastest site response time: 2.79 seconds. Web shoppers typically use a high broadband connection to log onto the Internet from a corporate environment, usually their place of employment. At home most web shoppers use a low broadband connection.

In June a shopper with a high broadband connection could access a Top 50 retail site in 5.72 seconds, compared with 14.63 seconds for a low broadband connection and 56.95 seconds for dial-up.
