Corporate parent of Perfume.com names new chairman and CEO

Communicate.com, which operates such e-commerce sites as Perfume.com and Body.com, has named C. Geoffrey Hampson, formerly CEO and president of Internet infrastructure company PEER 1 Network Enterprises Inc., as its new CEO and chairman. Hampson also has invested $1 million in the Vancouver-based company.

David Jeffs will stay on as Communicate.com’s president. “David and the team have done a terrific job in building Communicate.com into one of Canada’s fastest-growing companies with a solid foundation for growth,” Hampson says. “I will focus on significantly increasing the pace of development at the company and exploiting its abundant premium web assets to ramp revenues over the next 12 to 18 months.”

Besides Perfume.com, a consumer-oriented site that is No. 469 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, Communicate.com also operates Importers.com, a business-to-business site.

Communicate.com last month reported record first-quarter online sales of $1.6 million, up 25% from $1.3 million in the same quarter a year earlier. The company also reported a net loss of nearly $29,000, down from a loss of $39,000 a year earlier. Perfume.com also announced an upcoming television advertising campaign and named Adam Rabiner vice president of corporate relations.
