Improvement Direct, a specialty web retailer with 17 niche e-commerce sites that sell everything relating to home improvement from lighting fixtures to tankless water heaters, is helping customers go green.
Beginning later this month Improvement Direct, No. 165 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide,
will roll out new eco-friendly product categories on its various sites, beginning with Faucetdirect.com. The categories will feature a learning center where visitors can learn about new eco-friendly products and features and a rebate finder tool. Eco-friendly products will also be labeled with a special symbol that makes those products easier to find, the retailer says.
Improvement Direct, which posted e-commerce sales of $57 million in 2006, became interested in drawing attention to more eco-friendly products last fall with the launch of iTankless.com, an e-commerce site that sells gas and electric tankless water heaters. “Many customers are interested in the potential money savings on their water and power bills while doing their part to conserve natural resources,” the retailer says.
Eco-friendly products include energy star products that qualify for a “Water Sense” classification from the Environmental Protection Agency. The classification was first applied to toilets that are highly efficient with a flush rate of 1.3 gallons of water or less. With the new rebate finder, shoppers will be able to find and purchase online eco-friendly products that qualify for rebates based on federal or state classifications. “All of the products featured will offer the consumer significant savings while operating on reduced natural resources,” the retailer says.
