Liz Claiborne moving toward web-based supply chain

To keep up with the demands of fashion-forward merchandising, apparel provider Liz Claiborne Inc. is moving toward a fully web-based supply chain within less than two years, vice president Gary Ross said at Retail Systems today.

Ross, noting that retailers are being challenged by a market with “too many stores and too many products,” said it’s becoming particularly hard for fashion apparel companies to get the right products into the right stores in time to meet constantly changing customer demand. The challenge is heightened by new government regulations on securing international shipments and providing information on country of origin data on product materials, Ross said.

To meet all these challenges, Ross said, Liz Claiborne is moving toward a fully web-based supply chain with most of its suppliers, including all major vendors. “We’ll have an integrated, web-based end-to-end system” that’s flexible enough to handle different rules of engagement with multiple suppliers, he said.

“We’ll be almost 100% web-based within 16 to 18 months,” he said, adding that Liz Claiborne is using supply chain technology from Parametric Technology Corp.
