Google launches Froogle shopping service for the U.K.

Google is expanding the reach of its Internet search shopping service with the launch this week of Froogle UK, which like its U.S. counterpart provides shoppers with links to retailers offering the particular type of products they’re seeking.

Google says Froogle UK represents Google’s initial effort to bring its search shopping service to a market outside the U.S. "Froogle UK is our first effort at globalizing Froogle, but we're always looking for ways to expand," a spokeswoman says.

Froogle UK produces search results based on the relevancy of retail sites offering searched-for products, which appear in search results with photographs and direct links to a retailer’s buy page. It will also run paid Google AdWords listings.

UK merchants can submit a data feed on their sites, free of any charges, to the Froogle Merchant Center at Froogle.google.co.uk.
