Online retail spending gets another big boost
Online retail sales for the week ending Oct. 3 shot up 61% from the corresponding week a year ago following a 53% increase the week before, comScore Networks Inc. reports. Online retail sales for the week reached $1.46 billion from $908 million.
Strong sales the past two weeks did not prevent the third quarter, however, from notching a continued slowdown in the growth rate of online sales this year. Sales in the first three quarters of the year are up 23.1% to $42.7 billion from $34.6 billion a year ago, according to comScore numbers.
Total retail sales for the week ending Oct. 2 were up 2.8% from the corresponding week a year ago, according to ShopperTrak’s National Retail Sales Estimate.
