BodyBuilding.com plans to launch an online video sub-site

BodyBuilding.com is putting an increased emphasis on online videos and video shows, and is planning to create a sub-site to showcase video content, says CEO Ryan DeLuca. The sub-site is expected to be online within 60 days.

Currently, video product demonstrations and video shows are mixed in with the articles posted at the site, DeLuca says. By setting up a showcase, visitors to the site will be able to find the videos more easily.

In addition, the site will continue to post videos produced by its writers and members. “We are continuing to follow our community-based content approach,” he says. “For some of our best community writers and forum members, we have purchased medium quality video cameras and sent them to them. They shoot the video—they are the experts and the models—then they send the raw footage back to us and we put it into a professional show.”

The site also is broadcasting more live bodybuilding and fitness events this year, including the Arnold (Schwarzenegger) Classic. “We just signed a deal to give a free live webcast of the Mr. Olympia—the superbowl of bodybuilding—to our visitors this fall,” DeLuca says.

The site will release videos of top competitors preparing for the contest. “This has never been done in bodybuilding and we feel it will help promote the sport of bodybuilding, bring it to fans who can’t go in person, and make the contest more interesting,” he says.

BodyBuilding.com, No. 152 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, also recently hired another video editor to help keep up with the increased volume of work from creating video demonstrations for products sold on the site.
