Biblio.com Announces OCLC Linking for Libraries

ASHEVILLE, NC — April 11, 2005 — Biblio.com, one of the world`s largest suppliers of used, rare, and out-of-print books announced today a joint link between Biblio.com and the OCLC WorldCat database. Biblio.com will now provide access to millions of additional book titles in WorldCat through the OCLC FirstSearch online reference service.

Libraries and their patrons can identify out-of-print, hard-to-find, used and rare books in WorldCat, the world`s largest database of items held in libraries. From there, they can link to Biblio.com to purchase the items, as long as the library has enabled the optional link in the FirstSearch administrative module.

Additionally, when a book is not currently available on Biblio.com, customers will be linked to library holdings in WorldCat through the Open WorldCat program, which makes records of library-owned materials in WorldCat available to Web searchers in an effort to make libraries and their holdings more visible on the Web.

“The WorldCat database that OCLC provides is an invaluable resource for the public, and reinforces our emphasis on the importance of libraries in our communities,” said Brendan Sherar, CEO of Biblio.com. “And by providing OCLC with access to the entire Biblio.com database of books, we extend an additional resource to libraries in locating hard-to-find books for their patrons. There is a natural synergy here that makes OCLC and Biblio.com a perfect fit.”
