Apparel’s online sales pick up steam

Online sale of apparel and accessories recovered in June after taking a nosedive in April, Hitwise, an Internet traffic measurement and analysis company, reports. Apparel sites had risen steadily in share of online traffic through the first quarter from 0.285% of all Internet traffic in the first half of January to 0.33% by mid April. Apparel’s share then cratered to 0.295% at the end of April and has since resumed its upward march to 0.342% for the week ending June 14, Hitwise reports.

Top apparel and accessories web sites for the week and their share of apparel traffic were:
VictoriasSecret.com, 6.6%
Blair.com, 5.95%
Jewelry.com, 5.38%
OldNavy.com, 4.74%
Gap.com, 3.9%
TheKnot.com, 2.39%
AE.com, 2.19%
AbercrombieandFitch.com, 2%
JCrew.com, 1.97%

The average visit to a site lasted 7 minutes, 53 seconds.

A fourth of traffic to apparel and accessories sites came from search engines; 12% from other apparel and accessories sites. When they left an apparel site, 19.5% of shoppers went to another apparel site and 13.9% went back to the search engine.
