eBay launches co-op advertising campaign for its sellers
Following a test of a co-op advertising program that showed significant increases in sales and selling prices, eBay Inc. is offering its biggest sellers on eBay.com a 25% reimbursement of their insertion fees related to print advertising, CEO Meg Whitman told more than 10,000 eBay members today at the company`s eBay Live annual members conference. "We understand that eBay succeeds only if you succeed," she said.
During the test period, eBay PowerSellers saw an average 76% increase in gross merchandise sales, a 34% increase in average selling price and a 27% increase in the number of bids when they included the eBay logo with their eBay store web address in print ads, eBay said. "The company sees this program as a scalable marketing tool to help sellers grow their businesses," eBay said.
It added that its largest sellers, known as Titanium PowerSellers, could get reimbursed for a maximum of $8,000 per quarter for print ads that use the eBay logo.
