New RealPlayer plays and records video downloads
RealNetworks Inc. has rolled out a new version of RealPlayer that gives consumers one application to record and download videos from web sites with a single click. The new player software is available for free downloading at RealPlayer.com.
The new software is versatile, designed to let customers download video in the background while they view other videos, switch to another site or even close their browser. Customers can search thousands of sites across the web for video content, regardless of format and directly from within RealPlayer, the company says. Customers can share video clips with a new feature in which they can e-mail friends a link to the video’s location.
“Our goal with the new RealPlayer is to enable consumers to watch Internet video whenever and wherever they want,” says Rob Glaser, RealNetworks’ chairman and CEO. “By making it ‘one-click’ simple to download, we’re changing the way people experience online video.”
RealNetworks’ RealPlayer Music Store is No. 94 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
Other features of the new RealPlayer:
- Multiple videos can be downloaded and recorded simultaneously.
- Customers can view new web pages or close their browser while a download is in process without interrupting the full video.
- RealPlayer can capture online video in the multiple formats including Flash, Windows Media, QuickTime and RealPlayer.
- The player recognizes and will not download video content protected by digital rights management systems.
- Consumers have the option of burning videos to CD with the free version of the product, which can be played back in most DVD players. RealPlayer Plus, available for $29.99, lets customers burn video to DVD.
