Virgin Megastores unveils partnership with Cellfire in New York, California


Cellfire, a service that delivers coupons to registered users’ cell phones for store redemption, has launched a partnership with Virgin Megastores. The program, available to consumers in New York and California, delivers discounts of up to 20% on merchandise including CDs, DVDs, books and apparel and up to 25% off cell phone memory storage.

“Virgin Megastores is the perfect partner for our audience of young people, who depend on their cell phones daily," says Brent Dusing, CEO of Cellfire. Dusing has previously said that mobile campaigns have a high reach into the youth demographic, with 63% of Cellfire’s audience base under 35 years old.

“We see this promotion with Cellfire as an excellent way to reach out to our customers through the mobile channel,” says Roger Ritchie, senior marketing manager, Virgin Entertainment Group, North America.

The coupons are delivered to registered users’ cell phones via an application that users download into their phone from Cellfire’s web site. Once the application’s loaded into the user’s phone, offers are delivered wirelessly to the phone, based on the user’s registered location. New offers are accessible to the user when he or she refreshes that application on the phone.

The coupons are displayed on the cell phone’s screen in full-color graphic format, but they’re not scanned at the point of sale. Instead, the coupon on the cell phone screen is simply shown to an associate for redemption. Cellfire reports that it has issued more than 4 million offers to consumers in the past 12 months and that more than 2,000 merchants nationwide are honoring Cellfire mobile coupons and discount offers in-store.
