Weekly online spending rises 31%, as travel services lead
With a strong boost from online travel services at the beginning of the summer vacation season, online spending rose 31% for the week ended June 30 compared to the year-ago period, to $1.7 billion from $1.3 billion, reports comScore Media Metrix, a division of comScore Networks Inc.
Non-travel online sales rose 19%, to $849 million from $714 million, while travel-related online sales rose 45%, to $856 million from $591 million.
Non-travel sales were 49.8% of overall online sales, down from 54.7%; travel sales were 50.2% of overall online sales, up from 45%.
