eBags lifts conversion rates with free returns, price guarantees
Among ongoing efforts to improve the shopping experience for its customers, eBags.com saw increases of at least 9% in sales conversion rates during tests of lowest-price guarantees and of a completely free returns policy, vice president of business development and co-founder Peter Cobb tells InternetRetailer.com.
In a test conducted early this month, eBags offered half of its visitors a completely free returns service, eliminating its usual $5 restocking fee as well as shipping costs. "We saw a nice lift in the conversion rate from that, up 9%," Cobb says.
In another test, eBags offered half of its visitors a 110% price guarantee. Under the terms of the guarantee, eBags promised to match any lower price offered by a compeitor on the same product available on eBags.com and take off an additional 10%. The test showed a 10% increase in the sales conversion rate, Cobb says.
EBags conducted the tests by using two versions of its web site, so that half of its visitors see the tested promotions and half see the regular site without the promotions.
