Overstock.com deploys web-based transportation management system
Overstock.com, a retailer of surplus and off-price branded merchandise, is deploying a web-based transportation management system from NTE Inc. to get better control over its supply chain logistics and support plans to expand sourcing of products. By entering shipment data into the NTE Trade advanced carrier tendering engine, Overstock will benefit from a process that automatically selects the most efficient transportation mode and carrier for each delivery, the company says. "By providing a single repository for shipment data and transportation execution, we can better manage, control and report on our supply chain activities," says James Floyd, Overstock`s logistics manager.
The NTE Trade system also provides Overstock better visibility into transportation activities, which its managers can view in real-time updates on a web page. Other expected benefits include improved compliance by carriers with Overstock`s routing guides and faster reporting by carriers of shipment status.
Jim Davidson, CEO of NTE, said the web-based system is designed to quickly connect with many trading partners
