Q3 sales at Bluefly.com up 6%; net loss down 22%
Third-quarter sales at Bluefly Inc., an online retailer of designer brands at discount prices, increased 6% to $8.67 million from $8.2 million a year ago, the company reports. Q3 net loss decreased 22% to $1.96 million from $2.5 million a year ago.
The number of new customers decreased by 12.6% to 25,792 from 29,552, while the cost of acquiring new customers fell 20% to $8.41 from $10.52. Average order increased 11% to $179.48 from $161.87.
Bluefly also reported that gross margins increased to 34.2% in the third quarter from 21.3% in the third quarter 2003. The company says that the combination of revenue growth and gross margin growth generated a 69% increase in gross profit.
Bluefly’s October sales were down 18% to $3.4 million from $4.1 million in October 2003. The company says the decrease in sales was partly the result of four fewer selling days in October this year vs. October 2003.
