Walmart.com joins e-retailers using Endeca search

Wal-Mart Stores Inc.’s Walmart.com has replaced an in-house site search with the Endeca InFront search function, Endeca reported today.

Endeca InFront combines search, navigation and merchandising in a single application, enabling Walmart.com to apply its merchandising strategy to support the way shoppers click through the site, Endeca says.

A search on Walmart.com for “Star Wars,” for instance, would produce 900 results. But Walmart.com can set three best sellers at the top of the results list, and it can let shoppers drill down within a single click to one of several refined categories. By selecting the “Building Sets & Models” category that appears with the 900 Star Wars results, a shopper can single-click to a sub-group of seven results pertaining to building sets and models.
