Walmart.com set to go more upscale, retailer says
It will be out with the clutter and in with a more visually pleasing online shopping experience at Walmart.com in a site re-design planned for this year, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. says.
“We’re very much in commitment to have this re-design this year,” a spokeswoman says. “There will be a lot of commitment to the user experience so customers can better shop online.”
The re-design is still in the assessment stage, however, and Wal-Mart isn’t saying whether it will use in-house or outside technology and expertise in building the re-design, the spokeswoman says.
But the site is expected to offer a broader selection of housewares and consumer electronics, which rose some 40% in online sales last year, as well additional apparel selections and items for babies, Wal-Mart says.
The site re-design is intended to also complement an upgrading of Wal-Mart’s brick-and-mortar stores to make them more appealing to shoppers, the retailer says.
Wal-Mart is No. 12 in the Internet Retailer Top 400 Guide to Retail Web Sites.
