Apple.com leads computer hardware sites in traffic
Apple.com led all computer hardware manufacturer web sites in total number of at-home visitors for the week ending July 13, Nielsen/NetRatings reports. Apple hosted 3.7 million unique visitors that week. Next was Hewlett-Packard at 2.584 million, followed closely by Dell at 2.582 million, then a huge drop-off to Gateway at 307,000 and Sun Microsystems at 244,000. The entire category hosted 8.46 million unique visitors that week.
Hewlett-Packard also held customers the longest at 17 minutes and 27 seconds, followed by Gateway at 12 minutes and 49 seconds. Next was Dell at 8 minutes, 9 seconds, Apple at 4 minutes, 40 seconds and Sun at 4 minutes, 34 seconds. Visit time at all computer hardware manufacturers averaged 11 minutes, 59 seconds.
On the advertising front, Nielsen/NetRatings reported the following ranking of retail goods and services for ad impressions online:
Books, movies and music: 1.5 billion
Auctions: 650.5 million
Miscellaneous services: 555.4 million
Personal care: 287.3 million
Electronics: 221 million
Flowers and gifts: 176.4 million
Office supplies: 169.7 million
Domestics: 162 million
Apparel and jewelry: 138.7 million
Grocery: 138 million
Interestingly, the books, music and movies category garnered 300 million fewer impressions than it did a month ago, when Nielsen/NetRatings issued its previous report just ahead of the release of the latest Harry Potter book.
