Williams-Sonoma’s web sales grow 43% while total sales are up 14%
Third-quarter Internet sales at Williams-Sonoma Inc. increased 43.6% to $118.3 million versus $82.4 million in the third quarter of 2003, the company reported this week. Total sales at the San Francisco-based multi-brand, multi-channel retailer grew 14.2% to $722.8 million in the third quarter from $632.8 million in the third quarter of fiscal year 2003.
In the third quarter, web sales accounted for 16.4% of all sales vs. 13% a year ago.
Net earnings for the quarter increased 19.2% to $28.5 million from $23.9 million a year earlier.
The company said it expects to launch the first e-commerce web site for its Hold Everything brand this quarter.
Store-based sales in the third quarter increased 11.6% to $392.1 million from $351.4 million a year ago. The company says the increase was primarily driven by a year-over-year increase in retail leased square footage of 10.2%, including 26 new stores. Comparable store sales increased 3.1%.
Third-quarter catalog sales increased 4% to $163.2 million from $156.9 million a year ago. Catalog sales as a proportion of total sales fell to 22.5% in Q3 from 24.8% a year ago.
