DHL partners with Newgistics to offer the SmartLabel service to retailers
Delivery service DHL, which is making a push into the U.S. consumer market, is partnering with reverse logistics provider Newgistics to offer Newgistics’ SmartLabel product return service to DHL customers. DHL will sell the SmartLabel service to its retailer customers at the same time that it is selling its b2c delivery services.
Under the SmartLabel service, retailers enclose a pre-printed, prepaid, bar-coded label with orders. The label contains details about the customer and the purchase. Customers who want to return merchandise affix that label to the package and drop it with the U.S. Postal Service. DHL picks up returned packages from the postal facility and delivers them to the Newgistics return sorting facility. At that point, Newgistics scans the label and sends information to the retailer, who gets earlier visibility into merchandise that is coming back.

Austin, TX-based Newgistics counts among its SmartLabel customers Neiman Marcus, J.Crew, Eddie Bauer and Abercrombie & Fitch.
