Napster and Blockbuster offer music and DVDs with single card at RadioShack
Digital music and online movie rentals are two highly competitive markets, and now Napster, Blockbuster and RadioShack Corp. are teaming up to offer a single $20 gift card good for a month’s worth of both music and movie services. The Digital Duo card will initially be offered exclusively at the more than 5,000 RadioShack stores.
“Now you can listen to music from Napster while you browse for DVD titles on Blockbuster Online,” said Larry Linietsky, senior vice president of business development for Napster, which is a unit of Roxio Inc.
The $20 card, offering a 32% savings over the regular retail price for Napster and Blockbuster services of $29.42, provides 1-month unlimited on-demand access to Napster’s library of more than 1 million songs, two song tracks that can be downloaded, and an unlimited number of Blockbuster DVD rentals, with up to three DVDs out at a time. It also includes two in-store Blockbuster movie or game rentals. A spokeswoman for Napster said the companies have not decided how long the Duo Card will be available at the $20 price.
The companies did not say when or if the Duo Card would become available in other retail stores, though Napster already offers its own gift cards in more than 30,000 retail locations.
