SBC reports 52% year-to-year rise in broadband subscribers
SBC Communications Inc., the leading supplier of digital subscriber line broadband Internet access, added 1.6 million DSL subscribers in the 12-month-period ended Sept. 30, boosting its total by 51.6% to 4.7 million subscribers, the company says.
SBC also said it added 402,000 DSL subscribers in the third quarter, a 28% increase over the 315,000 added in the second quarter.
Many analysts attribute the continuing boom in online shopping to the spread of high-speed Internet access in the home.
