Books fall out of first place at Amazon
Amazon.com Inc. passed a milestone over the Thanksgiving weekend when Consumer Electronics became the biggest category in sales at Amazon. Amazon started as a books site, and no category has exceeded books in sales until now, despite the fact that Amazon now hosts multiple other categories and thousands of other products.
At the same time, the company reports, book sales set a record over the Thanksgiving weekend.
Amazon apparently benefited from its ranking in the December issue of Consumer Reports as the best place to buy electronics. "Amazon.com was recently named the best place to shop for electronics in the December issue of the leading consumer research magazine," said Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon.com. "We`re happy that so many customers are taking advantage of the low prices, selection and detailed product information that we offer in our Electronics store."
