Apple opens its iTunes music store to Canadians

Looking to expand its digital music market success north of the border, Apple Computer Inc. this week launched an iTunes Music Store in Canada featuring Canadian music artists among its database of more than 700,000 songs.

"The demand across Canada for the iTunes Music Store has been overwhelming," said Eddy Cue, vice president of applications.

Apple is offering Canadian users the same price and shopping features available in the U.S. Songs costs 99 cents (Canadian) per track, and features include the iMix song-sharing service that lets friends view and purchase published lists of one another’s favorite songs.

Apple reports that iTunes in the U.S. has sold more than 150 million songs since debuting 20 months ago, and that it now sells more than 4 million per week.
