Walmart.com gains in web traffic ranking, as eBay still dominates
Wal-Mart Stores Inc.’s Walmart.com is gaining in a periodic online traffic share report of online shopping and travel sites by Nielsen/NetRatings, with 3.93 million unique visitors for the week ended Nov. 21, moving into third place behind leader eBay, with 17.8 million, and second-ranked Amazon, with 8.6 million.
Although Walmart.com still has less than half of Amazon’s traffic, it shows some of the most noticeable gains in recent reports. Walmart.com ranked seventh with 2.4 million visitors in May, and climbed to fourth with 2.68 million for the week ended Nov. 5.
In the most recent ranking, for the week ended Nov. 21, Yahoo Shopping followed Walmart.com to rank fourth with 3.67 million visitors, followed by Shopping.com, 3.24 million; Target, 3.2 million; Dell, 2.86 million; Expedia, 2.72 million; and Best Buy, 2.50 million.
EBay also led in average time spent per visit, with 47 minutes, 44 seconds, followed by Dell, 12 minutes, 13 seconds; Amazon, 12 minutes, 6 seconds; Expedia, 9 minutes, 16 seconds; Overstock.com, 9 minutes, 2 seconds; Walmart.com, 8 minutes, 57 seconds; Best Buy, 7 minutes, 21 seconds; Target, 6 minutes, 42 seconds; Yahoo Shopping, 3 minutes, 49 seconds; and Shopping.com, 2 minutes, 19 seconds.
For the same week, Altria Group Inc. led all consumer goods advertisers in the number of online ad impressions, according to Nielsen’s AdRelevance report. The top 10 cited by AdRelevance and their number of impressions in millions:
