To better focus on growth in multiple retail channels, Best Buy Co. Inc. has promoted Brian J. Dunn from executive vice president of the 659 U.S. Best Buy stores to the new position of president of North American retail, including BestBuy.com and 142 stores in Canada, the company said today.
Dunn takes over his new position immediately and reports to Best Buy CEO Brad Anderson. Dunn has spent his entire professional retail career with Best Buy, having joined the company in 1985 as a sales consultant. He had served as executive vice president of U.S. Best Buy stores since 2002.
Management dedicated solely to BestBuy.com remains the same, a spokeswoman says. John Thompson, senior vice president and general manager, now reports to Dunn. Sam Taylor remains as senior vice president of online stores and continues to report to Thompson.
Best Buy also announced today a new role for online retail veteran John Walden, a former Peapod.com COO who joined Best Buy in 1999 as a corporate senior vice president and president of BestBuy.com. Walden moves from corporate executive vice president of human capital and leadership to executive vice president of the newly created customer business group, which will manage marketing, customer relationships and other customer-facing operations. He reports to Anderson.
