Bloomingdales.com pushes multi-channel sales with first search engine

Bloomingdales.com, the web site of Federated Department Stores Inc.’s stylish department store Bloomingdale’s, announced this week the launch of its first site search engine. Now online shoppers looking for Bloomie’s items not available on the web are no longer left in the dark. The search function directs them to stores and catalogs.

Bloomingdale’s launched at the end of September Atomz Commerce Search, a site search function developed and hosted by Atomz Corp. Lisa Gavales, senior vice president of marketing strategy for Bloomingdale’s, said the new feature has shown during the implementation period a positive impact on sales performance. “We have witnessed first-hand the influence that high-impact search results can have on conversion rates,” she said. “We have been very happy with the service.”

The Atomz search function is designed to support multi-channel sales. When a customer searches Bloomingdales.com for products only available in Bloomingdale’s stores, such as toys or lamps, the search function issues a reply that advises the shopper to try a store and offers a “click here” link to a store locator.
