Catering to last-minute shoppers with special shipping deals
Playing Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer to last-minute shoppers in a fog about how to deliver a gift in time for Christmas, retailers like BlueNile.com and eBags.com are offering free upgrades to expedited shipping.
For orders placed between Dec. 15 and midnight, Dec. 21, with standard ground shipping, eBags is providing a free upgrade to UPS 2-day air shipment on a limited number of products identified by a “Free 2 Day Air Upgrade” icon. Eligible products range from a $39.99 Case Logic DVD player kit to a $300 Alice Roi Appalachian handbag.
Jewelry retailer BlueNile is pushing the shipping envelope even further, promising free shipping for Christmas delivery on nearly all orders received by 3 p.m., Eastern time, Dec. 23. It says the free shipping, via FedEx, applies to all types of orders, regardless of size or value.
