Amazon.com Inc. is making progress in becoming more than primarily a book seller. The company reported in November that electronics sales Nov. 25-28, the Thanksgiving shopping period, exceeded book sales in the U.S. This week it reports that electronics sales over the weekend—the last weekend before Christmas—exceeded book sales in Germany.
“Even as its books business set a new weekend-before-Christmas record, the product line electronics & photo on www.amazon.de became Amazon.de's largest sales category for the first time,” the company reported. Amazon.de debuted its Electronics & Photo category in 2001.
Amazon.de is offering Christmas Eve delivery of products ordered up until midnight tonight.
