Point-of-Sale Offering to Include Wincor Nixdorf`s BEETLE Hardware, Retek Integrated Store Operations and Sun`s Sun Fire Volume Systems
AUSTIN, Texas--January 20, 2004--Wincor Nixdorf Inc., Sun Microsystems Inc. (Nasdaq:SUNW) and Retek Inc. today announced the availability of an integrated solution that delivers a low-cost, secure, scalable JavaPOS(tm)-based technology offering to the retail industry. The solution enables retailers to easily acquire and implement end-to-end JavaPOS-based technology -- at the point of sale (POS) and on store servers. Based on Java technology, the solution offers retail customers all the benefits of the only standards-based platform for developing and deploying secure, robust, interoperable enterprise applications.

The solution includes:

-- Retek Integrated Store Operations (ISO), which provides retailers a technologically advanced software application that delivers point-of-sale, labor scheduling, time and attendance, cash management and inventory management.
-- The JavaPOS solution runs on Sun`s Sun Fire(tm) volume systems and the Solaris(tm) 9 Operating System in the store. Sun is demonstrating the Retek-Wincor-Sun solution at its iForce(sm) Competency Center in Menlo Park, Calif.
