1-800-Flowers.com continues to draw the customers in
Westbury, NY-based 1-800-Flowers.com added 1.1 million new customers in the second quarter of fiscal 2002, which ended Dec. 30, the company reported today, with 420,000 coming to the company online. During the period, 2 million customers placed orders; 46.4% were repeat customers, up from 40.1% a year ago. The company reported that 270,000 customers placed multiple orders during the quarter, many using both the Internet and telephone.
The company met its revenue expectation as reported earlier this month, with revenues for the quarter growing 21% to $162.3 million from $134.2 million a year ago. Net income increased to $1.8 million in the quarter, compared with a loss of $10.5 million a year ago.
Online revenues increased 26.8% to $60.5 million, representing 37.3% of net revenues compared with $47.7 million, or 35.5%, in the same period last year. Telephone orders for the quarter increased 18.1% to $93.6 million compared with $79.2 million in the second quarter of fiscal 2001. The balance of the revenue came from store sales.
During the second quarter, non-floral gifts represented 62.1% of total revenues, compared with 55.7% a year earlier.
