Digitally Unique reports December sales up more than 100% year-to-year
With help from a redesigned web site, December sales at consumer electronics and computer products e-retailer Digitally Unique are up more than 100% over December ’03, James Ensten, vice president of marketing, tells InternetRetailer.com.
“Sales are growing better than our expectations,” he says. Ensten notes that sales through Dec. 27 reached over $1 million, a rise of 119% over the full month of December ’03. Fourth-quarter sales are up 31% year-to-year, to $2.6 million from about $2 million, he adds.
Ensten attributes the growth partly to a site redesign at DigitallyUnique.com that launched last summer, including improved site search and navigation. “Instead of drilling down excessively to find things, now shoppers can do one or two clicks to see how many products are in a category,” he says. “Shoppers can refine search by sub-category, manufacturer, price, and in-stock/out-of-stock.”
Digitally Unique developed the new site search in-house with Solid Cactus Inc., a web development firm based in Wilkes Barre, PA, separating the site function from a platform provided by Yahoo Shopping, Ensten says. Yahoo Shopping will continue to host the site and provide its shopping cart, he adds.
Ensten says Digitally Unique is also benefiting from a higher percentage of consumer electronics sales, which now account for about a third of overall sales. The other two-thirds are in computer and data storage products.
Digitally Unique’s sales figures include b2b as well as b2c e-commerce.
