Phoenix-based Petsmart Inc. has bought the share of its dot-com operation that was owned by outside investors and will combine the dot-com and catalog operations into its overall operations. Petsmart paid $9.5 million for the portion of Petsmart.com that it did not own.
"Our investment in integrating our catalog and e-commerce channels is just the next step in simplifying and streamlining our operations,” said Phil Francis, chairman and CEO. “It will eliminate redundant support structures, improve the operating efficiency, cost structure and profitability of the company's direct marketing businesses, and give Petsmart stores and the company as a whole access to cost-effective fulfillment and direct marketing tools."
Under the integration plan, Petsmart.com operations will move from, Pasadena, CA, to Phoenix. The marketing, catalog development, human resource and finance operations of Petsmart Direct, its equine direct marketing business, also will be consolidated in Phoenix. The Petsmart Direct Brockport, NY, facility will continue to handle fulfillment for the pet and equine catalogs, e-commerce sites and in-store State Line Tack departments, and will manage customer service for all direct marketing operations.
