This idea turns eBay on its head

Here’s a switch on online selling: An Australian company has started a web site—Netwants.com—where consumers who want to buy something list the product they want and what price they are willing to pay.

The site is still small--attracting only 1,500 visitors a week. It lists 400 product wants in 47 categories. There is no fee to consumers to list the products they want to buy.

"The idea of advertising for what you want and letting the sellers come to you makes a lot of sense. It saves consumers the time spent locating items, especially rare ones," said Andy Anderson, CEO of Netwants Pty Ltd. "It is great for sellers too. Before they place ads, they can look through our listings. If they find a match, they save on advertising."
