Marie J. Toulantis has been named chief executive officer of Barnes & Noble.com. She has been president and chief operating officer of Barnes & Noble.com since May 2001, and previously served as the company`s chief financial officer.

"Marie has done an outstanding job in helping build Barnes & Noble.com into the leading Internet site of any retailer worldwide," said Leonard Riggio, chairman. "Marie`s extensive financial background, her intimate knowledge of the book business, her creativity in marketing, and her unique ability to motivate and lead people make her the ideal choice for CEO of Barnes & Noble.com."

Toulantis oversaw the company`s initial public offering in May 1999, the largest Internet offering at the time, and during the last three years has been involved in every aspect of the company`s online business.
