Internet sales at J. Crew Group Inc. grew 14.5% last year from $107.3 million to $122.9 million, the company reported today. Web-based sales now account for 15.8% of J. Crew’s sales vs. 13% last year. The company reported that total revenue for the year fell 5.8% to $778 million from $826 million the year before. There was, however, an additional week in the previous year’s fiscal calendar. Catalog sales for the year fell 23.8% to $135.3 million from $177.5 the year earlier.
For the four weeks ended Feb. 2, revenues were $35.9 million compared
to $52.6 million for the five weeks ended Feb. 3, 2001. January 2001 consisted of five weeks compared to four weeks this year. Internet sales for the month were $7.4 million vs. $8.2 million the year earlier.
J. Crew operates 136 retail stores, the J. Crew catalog, jcrew.com, and 41 factory
outlet stores.
