2001 web sales at Office Depot grow 58% from 2000
Web sales at Delray Beach, FL-based Office Depot Inc. reached $1.6 billion in 2001 and now account for 14.3% of Office Depot’s total revenue. Web sales were up 58% from the prior year’s $1.01 billion, 8.7% of total revenue. The company says it expects web sales to reach $2 billion this year.
Total revenue was down 4% from the previous year, to $11.2 billion from $11.6 billion. Same-store sales worldwide were down 2%. Office Depot’s net income reached $201 million this year, up from $49.3 million the year earlier.
Office Depot says its consolidation last year of 24 customer call centers into seven reduced costs and improved customer service. A priority for this year, says CEO Bruce Nelson, is “integrating our multi-channel strategy to provide a flawless and seamless customer experience across all of our brands and channels.”
