REI hires a new head of information services
Recreational Equipment Inc., a retail cooperative selling outdoor gear and clothing, has named Jeff Zon vice president of information services. He will manage a 180-member team responsible for technical services to REI`s business units, including its web site, No. 74 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, application development and support, personal computing, architecture and networks.
Before joining REI, Zon spent nine years at Whole Foods Market, most recently as group director of infrastructure, finance and retail systems.
Zon’s colleague Brad Brown, REI’s vice president of e-commerce, will speak at the Internet Retailer Conference & Exhibition, June 4-7 in San Jose as featured speaker on June 6: Why Retail Stores Can`t Put Up Web Stores and Forget Them.
Founded in 1938, REI is the nation`s largest consumer co-op with more than 3.1 million active members. It operates 89 stores in 25 states, as well as REI.com and REI-Outlet.com, and a travel company, REI Adventures.
