Overstock.com elects Clay Corbus, Hambrecht`s co-CEO, to its board
Overstock.com Inc.’s board of directors has elected Barclay F. Corbus as an independent director and named him to the audit committee.
Corbus is co-CEO of WR Hambrecht + Co, an investment bank that has invested in high tech and Internet-oriented companies and been involved in taking a number of them public, including Overstock. Prior to joining WR Hambrecht + Co in March 1999, Corbus was in the investment banking group at Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette.
"Clay was one of the bankers that took us public using WR Hambrecht`s auction process," says CEO Patrick Byrne. "In the years since then, I`ve valued his advice from the sideline and feel fortunate to have him on the board as a more active participant."
Corbus replaces Gordon Macklin, a board members since 1999, who died in February. He was chairman of Hambrecht and Quist Group, a venture capital and investment banking company, from 1987 until 1992.
Overstock’s Geoff Atkinson, chief of staff, will speak at Internet Retailer Conference & Exhibition, June 4-7 in San Jose in a workshop June 4 entitled E-mail Marketing: Being Persuasive, Not Offensive.
