Yankee Group/Sunbelt Software study reveals new insights into spam as a security issue
Clearwater, Florida, USA June 20, 2003 - Sunbelt Software and Yankee Group released today the results of an exclusive survey of 400 network professionals on network security. A key finding of the survey is that spam has now surpassed software viruses as the number-one source of unwanted network intrusions.
"This survey clearly shows that spam has developed into a real issue for corporate America," said Laura DiDio, senior analyst at the Yankee Group.
"This research confirms our anecdotal observations: We are seeing corporate clients moving fast to put a stop to this incredibly frustrating problem," said Alex Eckelberry, president of Sunbelt Software.
An overwhelming 82% of organizations said spam has hit them. By comparison, 74% of businesses said that their firm had been hit by computer viruses.
