Growth in online shopping has stayed strong, even after the end of the hoiday shopping season, BizRate.com reports. In the week that ended Feb. 23, consumers spent $800 million online, up 34% from the same week last year, when they spent $596 million, BizRate reported today. Consumers conducted 5.85 million retail buying transactions online, up 27% from the year earlier week, when they conducted 4.59 million. The average ticket was 5% higher, growing to $136.70 from $129.70.
"Holiday 2001 growth of 36% year over year was not just a fluke -- online
spending is proving to be sustainable with 34% growth for the week ending
Feb. 23," says BizRate.com's CEO Chuck Davis.
