Online tool helps wine enthusiasts find Oregon vineyards or buy at home
Oregon’s burgeoning wine industry is going online to help travelers find its vineyards – and to buy Oregon wines at home. The Oregon Wine Board has launched an updated version of the Oregon Wine Explorer at Oregonwine.org that offers both a virtual tour of and driving directions to the state’s wine regions, as well as a new Wine Finder tool that allows shoppers to purchase online directly from Oregon wineries.
The internally developed Wine Finder tool, accessible at http://explorer.oregonwine.org, allows visitors to search for Oregon wines available to ship to their state. The selection can be narrowed with filtering choices such as region, price, variety, vintage, ratings and sustainability certification. A keyword search allows shoppers to further narrow their choices by entering search terms corresponding to flavor notes – such as “full” or “dry,” for example – winemaker styles, food pairings or soil type.
The Wine Explorer is intended to connect the state’s wines, many of which are boutique labels created in small wineries and not usually distributed outside of Oregon, with more consumers, according to the wine board. “Wine-related tourism is important to Oregon, so we have responded with an intuitive online travel tool to help visitors find wineries that match their needs,” says Ted Farthing, executive director of the Oregon Wine Board. “We understand that everyone may not have a chance to visit in person, so the Wine Finder tool helps bring Oregon wines to their doorstep.”
