Internet sales are rebounding at Sharper Image Corp. After reporting year-to-year declines in Internet sales, the Sharper Image today reported that February Internet sales were up 46% from February of last year, excluding auctions, which Sharper Image used to host itself but no longer does. Including auctions, web-based sales were still up 23% over February 2000.
Including auctions, web sales totaled $3.6 million, up from $2.9 million a year earlier. The web accounted for 13.4% of Sharper Image’s sales in February.
Total company sales for February increased 35% to $26.9 million from last February's $19.9 million. February total store sales increased 16% to $14.6 million from $12.6 million; comparable store sales increased 5%. Catalog sales increased 98% to $8.7 million from last February's $4.4 million. Catalog sales were up sharply due to what the company characterizes as “outstanding” response to its infomercials.
"We were pleased with our excellent sales in the first month of our fiscal year. The sales improvement we saw in January strengthened in February and has continued into early March," said Richard Thalheimer, founder, chairman and CEO. "We remain committed to our successful strategy of growth through multiple sales channels, driven by high-margin private label and Sharper Image Design proprietary products.”
